Web Designer

Web Designer (Contract) – VEA Technologies

We are looking for a rockstar website designer to join our team. Bottom line: If you don’t have a stellar portfolio of WordPress websites you have personally designed, please don’t apply. If you have designed dozens of creative, state-of-the-art websites, just send us a link to your portfolio and we’d love to talk with you!

We need someone who can work remotely on a freelance basis until the position turns full time. We need someone who can multi-task and complete work in a self-managed setting. This opportunity is open-ended and remote but will require meetings with clients in the Denver area although these will be minimal.

This Designer will create web design and digital marketing creative assets in tune with our clients’ needs, doing so with a flair that sets us apart from the crowd.

Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Work to design engaging visual solutions, specifically responsive wireframes, mockups, and deliver HTML /JS/CSS for development
  • Identify and translate project requirements and business goals into intelligent UX and engaging design
  • Identify user pain points and create intuitive design to alleviate
  • Create user experiences that are data-driven and conversion-focused
  • Communicate ideas and concepts clearly and concisely, while also being open to receiving feedback and direction
  • Work closely with development team
Skills + Traits + Abilities:
  • 3+ years experience in UX & Web/Digital design
  • Understanding of user experience and how it influences design
  • Fluent in UX architecture, concepting, interactive wireframing & rapid prototyping with a variety of tools.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and/or other modern prototyping tools (Sketch, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript
  • Demonstrated experience in CSS Frameworks (Twitter Bootstrap), and CSS preprocessors (SASS/LESS)
  • Experience with content management systems (Umbraco a plus)
  • Strong sense of web design principles, especially use of color, imagery, typography, and composition
  • Affinity for current industry developments, design trends, and technologies
  • Ability to work on multiple projects under varying deadlines and quickly respond to creative and technical direction while managing all details.

The Position:

We are looking for a rockstar WordPress Developer to join our team. Bottom line: If you don’t have a stellar portfolio of WordPress websites you have personally developed, please don’t apply. We need someone who can work remotely on a freelance basis until the position turns full time. We need someone who can multi-task and complete work in a self-managed setting. This opportunity is open-ended and remote but will require meetings with clients in the Denver area although these will be minimal.

Contract projects also require working with our Graphic Design and Consulting teams to build ADA compliant websites using provided mockups and apply mockup layouts to similar pages. The freelance Web Developer will also be responsible for creating innovative solutions to web design issues to help make the website more visually appealing and enhance usability and accessibility.

Overall experience with HTML, PHP, WordPress, other basic web design skills are required. Please include in your application a portfolio or examples of websites you have built.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • New website development, redesign, maintenance, and critical and time-sensitive repairs.
  • Work directly with customer / client liaison (email, phone, screen sharing, etc.) for delivery.
  • Document work on projects including documenting custom code.
  • Work with hosting services (setup and management), and potentially with other vendors involved in the overall web development process.
  • Respond to customers and team within defined service levels.
  • Effective management of time and ability to produce cost-effective delivery.
  • Work so as to accommodate business conducted in Mountain Time Zone, but not exclusively.
  • Demonstrate the value of work to the customer, and ensure the work provided is of value.
  • Manage projects and assignments on schedule, and within budget, and effectively manage influences and impacts to schedule and budget.
Required Skills:
  • Current skills required of a full-stack WordPress web developer.
  • Maintain the currency of such required skills for the development of state of the art websites.
  • 5 + years of web development experience, and 3+ specific to WordPress. Knowledge of popular themes and plugins.
  • Ability to work server-side in support of WordPress.
  • Functional skill with CSS and HTML.
  • Knowledge of site optimization in regards to web development.
  • Adobe skills or similar for image optimization and scaled images.
  • Can manage multiple website projects at one time, with the willingness to do so.
  • Good customer facing skills, with the ability to listen and to establish rapport, to ask the right questions, and to quickly establish specifications from non-technical people.
  • Team-oriented. Ability to work in a team with graphic designers, marketing specialists, testers, etc. to deliver a quality website.
  • Solid prioritization skills with understanding of critical path, and the ability and willingness to balance several ongoing assignments.
  • Responsiveness – this is critical, such as when a customer’s site malfunctions.
  • Accountability — absolutely necessary.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, with a team and independently.
  • Value learning and growing, working in teams, and working with a range of clients in diverse industries.
